This workshop will cover the Motivational Interviewing skill of engagement. Learn how to practice fundamental OARS skills grounded in Spirit during the most important phase of MI: engagement in the therapeutic encounter.

OBJECTIVES:
  • To implement the spirit of MI and basic OARS skills to engage collaboratively with clients
  • To identify roadblocks that arise with engagement, how to avoid them, and when re-engagement may be needed
  • To practice responding to clients who struggle with engagement
  • To identify discord in the encounter, and practice ways to “roll with resistance.”

MI implements client-centered communication skills and directive strategies to work collaboratively with clients on progress toward behavior change. Gain a new understanding of Motivational Interviewing (MI), an evidence based treatment used to enhance behavior change. Co-creators Bill Miller and Steven Rollnick published the third edition of their book in 2012, and some things have changed! Attend the complete series to learn about the new Four Processes of MI and how to immediately apply these new concepts in your workplace. Participants are encouraged to attend the entire series, but modules are stand-alone if participant has some knowledge of MI basics.

Food and drinks served. We look forward to seeing you there!
